Diamond is the most sought after gemstone in the world. The value of a diamond depends on its cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. It is a mix of these four Cs that determines a diamond’s value. A perfect diamond will be correctly proportioned to ensure light going into the stone is reflected back at the viewer, giving it a dazzling appearance. Light lost through the sides or bottom of a stone is not desirable. Colour is a matter of taste, but traditionally pure white diamonds are the most sought after. Fancy coloured diamonds do occur naturally, and are popular in bright colours, such as yellow, blue, pink and red. Truly good ones are incredibly rare. The grading of colour is as follows.

We use D - G as standard, and also the occasional special fancy colour.
Clarity is very important, and a scale exists to explain how ‘clean’ a diamond is inside. Inclusions are imperfections within a stone that appear as spots, feathers or clouds. |

A stone is categorised as Loupe Clean when an expert grader can see no visible inclusions at 10x magnification. VVS1 and VVS2 contain such tiny internal characteristics, that often only an expert would ever see them. Diamonds are weighed in Carats and 1 carat is 1/5 gram. It is not to be confused with Carat which indicates the purity of gold. Winbolt Ltd only use natural diamonds from South Africa. We do not use conflict diamonds.
